Cauliflower flowering in the garden - March 2011

Take a look at the cauliflower flowering in our organic raised garden bed!

This photo was taken during March, 2011

Snap pea's growing like crazy in the raised garden

This photo was taken a few weeks back. These snap  peas grow so fast! The more you pick, the more thisplant produces. Pick them when the are about 2" in length and eat right from the garden.

Check out this cool green bee I found in the yard

Found this little guy hanging onto his last bit of life in the yard the other day.

Any idea on what type of bee or insect this is?

Warm weather is here!

With the temps hitting near 90 already, the hard freeze seems like a distant memory now. Everything is starting to bloom and the new seedlings of all the wild flowers we've thrown are starting to emerge like a filed of grass...we may have thrown toomuch seed, lol, but you can never have too many wild flowers!

The rain

The rain hit us really hard right at 10pm! Currently it's bright blue skies outside and cold. I was hoping the rain would continue into today, but it seems like all the fun rain comes at night when were asleep :(

The garden and the entire yard for that matter got a good soaking, which means I shouldn't have to run my drip irrigation for the next couple of weeks if we stay under the 80 degree mark.

Garden update

Well it feels like it has been a long time since I've posted anythign on thegarden blog...I've been really busy expanding the side garden where I used to only have grapevines and pepper plants. Now the entire length of the grape and pepper areaisone  large garden! I have everything in there from onions, potatoes, herns, shallots, garlic and so much more! I will post some pictures soon, but in the meantime I hope to upload some more youttube videos of the garden and the various things starting to come  into season right now.

On another topic, the wild flowers we threw out from seed are starting to show everywhere! I most likely threw way too much seed so I'm betting were going to be living in a jungle pretty fast :)

Get ready for more rain tonight

A big storm is headed our way according to the local news reports. It should hit us with a lot of rain and wind sometime after 7pm.

I think I will cover my citrus trees with some frost cloth Sunday night since they are just now starting to burst with new growth. The new growth is what will burn really easily with a freeze. I think everything we have in the garden should be ok without covering. The broccoli and cauliflower are getting HUGE!
